Denver Mayoral Candidate Endorsement

The Sierra Club is excited to announce our official endorsement of Mike Johnston for Denver Mayor. Mr. Johnston earned Sierra Club’s endorsement through his commitment to aiding Denver’s transition to renewable energy and tackling issues of inequity throughout the city. 

The Endorsement Subcommittee members came to this decision after a rigorous process through which we got to know both candidates for the upcoming election, looking for environmental champions that would stand alongside our mission to conserve wildlife, our environment, and our natural heritage, while fighting for environmental justice.

With a track record of tackling issues that reflects Sierra Club’s own values, Mike Johnston has demonstrated his commitment to a more sustainable future. He has successfully pushed to increase the state’s renewable energy standards beyond the goals outlined in the Paris Climate Accord, protected billions of dollars of funding for public schools, and built a coalition in support of the first statewide approach to solving Colorado’s housing and homeless crisis in 2022.
